Here at Prime Stairlifts, we never want to leave any questions unanswered about your specific stairlift needs. Whether you are a current Prime Stairlift customer or simply curious how Prime Stairlift helps someone regain their independence every day, learn all about how and why a Prime Stairlift can improve your mobility with the answers to your most frequently asked questions.

What is a stairlift used for?

A stairlift is a device predominantly used by people with mobility restrictions, disabilities, or anyone who has struggles going up and down the stairs. A stairlift is specifically designed to make mobility easier for people of all ages.

How do stairlifts work?

Stairlifts are designed and manufactured to travel on a single or double rail track that is mounted directly to your staircase, not the wall. Stairlifts contain three main components: a motor, a battery, and a gear. Batteries power stairlifts. An energy-efficient stairlift battery makes stairlift use more reliable in a power outage. Stairlifts move up and downstairs with the help of a battery-powered motor connected to gears. An armrest control and remote control operate the stairlift.

How much do stairlifts cost?

Our stairlifts are customised to meet the needs and requirements of each customer. Depending on your individual needs and the configuration of your staircase, the price of a Prime Stairlift is different. We can provide an accurate quotation after an assessment is conducted by our trained surveyors.

How long does it take to install a stairlift?

It typically takes between 1-2 hours to install a Prime Stairlift, while more complex installations can take up to 4-5 hours.

How do I choose a stairlift?

Different types of stairlifts are available to suit different needs. This includes straight stairlifts, curved stairlifts, standing stairlifts and outdoor stairlifts.

Once you decide to get a stairlift, the next step is choosing a suitable model for your needs. Prime Stairlifts can assess your personal needs to ensure that the right stairlift is fitted into your home. It all depends on whether you have a straight or curved staircase. After that, you need to consider what is important to you, such as cost, reliability, or brand name.

How much electricity will a stairlift use?

A Prime Stairlift doesn’t use a lot of electricity; it typically uses the same amount of electricity as a small television on standby (23Kwh per year for a straight stairlift / 35kwh per year for a curved stairlift).

Can a stairlift go around corners?

All our stairlifts are customised to fit each individual staircase. 99% of stair configurations can be accommodated by stairlifts, including around corners. At Prime Stairlifts, we offer a range of stairlifts that can navigate corners, spiral staircases, and landings.

How much space does a stairlift take?

The amount of space a stairlift takes up depends on the make and model of the stairlift and the layout of your home. Depending on the type of stairlift you choose, you will need space at the top and bottom of your stairs to accommodate the rail and the stairlift can be accessed easily. A compact stairlift takes up less space than a stairlift with standard dimensions.

How wide do stairs need to be for a stairlift?

At Prime Stairlifts, we aim to fit even the narrowest of staircases. A straight stairlift can generally only be installed on a staircase at least 28 inches wide. Curved stairlifts typically require 30 inches. One of our fully trained surveyors can assess your staircase to ensure a possible lift.

How long does a stairlift last?

Although regular service and maintenance will extend its life, a new Prime Stairlift lasts for around ten years. Buying a second-hand or a reconditioned stairlift that is less than three years old still assures you that it will last for years to come.
